Cruelty Free Cosmetics
During lockdown I spent some time researching cruelty free and vegan products for my hair and make up kit - something that’s really important to me & something I’ve always been conscious about but which requires quite some time to look into and research so I was very grateful for the opportunity over lockdown 2.0!
When I first became a make up artist seven years ago I wanted to ensure my entire hair and make up kit consisted of only 100% cruelty free brands although it can be an overwhelming subject to look into with many grey areas, loopholes and ever-changing policies/statements from brands. I would purchase a whole load of make up from a company who declared they were ‘100% cruelty free’ for them to then go on and sell in mainland China where unfortunately animal testing is a requirement by law. The whole process left me feeling like I’d failed at my mission to be a cruelty free make up artist, disappointed and overwhelmed!
Thankfully, due to the amazing guidance from programmes like Leaping Bunny, PETA, Cruelty Free Kitty and Cruelty Free International it’s easier to discover products which aren’t tested on animals now more than ever before and last month I made some exciting discoveries for products which I can add to my kit! Yay!
I’ve always been a huge fan of Superdrug own brand for their Leaping Bunny approved products which include a while abundance of things including hair care products, make up, soaps, anti-bac, toothpastes and so on and have just discovered Umberto Giannini hair products are cruelty free and vegan too!
This is great news as quality, affordable, & cruelty free hair care has always been a bit harder to come by so I’m delighted and have added a few bits to my kit as pictured including their Miracle Worker Serum, Max Volume Whip Mousse and Mess Up texturising spray. I can’t wait to use them on my clients for their Christmas hair appointments, upcoming festive micro weddings and bridal hair and make up trials this month!
I’ll also be posting some updates soon on my favourite make up brands which are certified cruelty free, including products which are in my kit and some budget friendly buys so watch this space! I’m also pleased to say that with the helpful resources listed above (links will be copied below) going forward anything I buy as a new addition for my hair or make up kit will now be certified as cruelty free by Leaping Bunny or another credible organisation and I will only be recommending these products to my clients too!
If anyone has any recommendations for their favourite brands please leave them in a comment below - I always love to hear of new ones!

P.S. Please note I’m not claiming to be perfect with every purchase and am constantly learning, researching and looking into new products and ways to reduce waste while working and providing a professional service. I just like to do my bit and hope this blog helps and inspires others to discover new brands and products too which help end animal suffering :) thank you for taking the time to read!
